New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Community Partnership Grant

Community Works of Louisiana would like to thank the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation for awarding us with a 2011 Community Partnership Grant. The grant will be used to further develop and continue Imen Djouini’s Stop Action Animation Class in our afterschool and summer program at the International School of Louisiana. The Jazz & Heritage After-School and Summer Education Programs in Music, Arts and Cultural Traditions award was presented to CWLA along with several other organizations on November 30th at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Gallery. CWLA is honored to have been chosen from the many applicants to receive this award and is grateful to be able to continue educating students in extended learning opportunities.

Stop Action Animation Class

This version of the class will offer students the ability to learn about Louisiana Culture and History through transforming students’ interpretation of a Louisiana themed story into an animated video. Students will not only enhance their creative and literacy skills but also learn how to work with new forms of technology. An important component to this class is teamwork. The final animated video is the product of bringing together each student’s unique cultural perspective and newly learned computer skills in order to animate their collective version of a Louisiana short story.

The Stop Action Animation Class has been a part of the ISL afterschool and summer program for the past 2 years. Previously, students retold and created videos for The Fire Children: A West African Folk Tale as well as Aesop’s Fable The Ant and the Grasshopper. To see these and other videos from CWLA programs please visit the Student Videos page under Programs.
